STEVE ENGLAND

Hi - My name is Steve England.

I live in Leicester, a city in the East Midlands of England. I was born and bred here, having attended Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys (1957-64).
I went to the Birmingham School of Librarianship and passed the professional qualifications.
I went to work in Leicester City Libraries and then joined the Leicestershire Libraries and Information Service at local government reorganisation in 1974.
Since December 1979, I have been Librarian at the Leicester Mercury local newspaper, a position I still enjoy.
I would gladly enjoy entering into discussions with other newspaper and media librarians.

To find out more about this forward-looking newspaper, take a look at the website:

Eventually, it is hoped that a digitised database covering the years 1874 to the present is available on the website, with a very useful search facility. But, like everything else, this would cost money. No charitable organisation looks kindly on a business applying for grants, so, unless there is a benevolent person out there, who would like the database named after them, the possibility of this happening is just a little remote. If you are that benevolent benefactor, then please get in touch:

Thank you.
